BROOKS — Mildred “Millie” Caroline Gibbs (Thomas) passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2022, at Tall Pines Nursing Home in Belfast.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Flora Thomas; husband Ervin Gibbs; and brother, Fred Thomas.

Millie is survived by her sons, Jesse and Jim Gibbs of Brooks; granddaughters Holly MacDonald and husband Eric, and Charity Vines and husband Ryan; and great-grandchildren Zachary Collier and wife Kasey, Sam Dakin, Brenna, Hunter and Julia Vines; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Millie moved to Brooks as a young bride. She spent her early years there raising her boys and caring for many neighborhood children. She was very active in the Harvest Home Grange, Ladies Auxiliary Extension, Varney Ladies Fellowship, and the Marsh River Theater, where her molasses and no-bake cookies were always in high demand. She was also known far and wide for her fabulous chop suey recipe.

Millie loved “Beano” and could be found all over Waldo County covering the cards. She frequented Ralph’s Café in Brooks, eating delicious food and chatting with her second family, the Champas. Millie could be a woman of few words, but she could make a sailor blush when she wanted to. Millie has touched so many people’s lives and will be missed by all who knew her.

Millie’s family would like to invite her friends to attend a celebration of life on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Varney Building in Brooks.
