SEARSMONT — A debate between the two candidates for Waldo County sheriff will take place Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. in the lower level meeting room in the Searsmont Town Office building at 37 Main St. South. The public is invited to attend.

Moderator William Carroll, Republican Journal editor, will flip a coin at 5:30 p.m. to determine who will go first — Waldo County Chief Deputy Jason Trundy, Democrat, or Searsport Police Chief Todd Boisvert, Republican.

Each candidate will give a 5-minute opening statement. They will also receive the first question during their 5:30 p.m. briefing before the debate begins.

Carroll will pose six prepared questions to the candidates on a rotational basis, and each candidate will have 3 minutes to answer. Audience members will be given cards on which to write and submit additional questions, and during a short break, Carroll will choose two of those for the candidates.

Candidates will be allowed 3 minutes each for closing statements.
