BELFAST — The Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court St., hosts a Halloween Ball and Art Auction Saturday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 10 p.m. Entertainment includes live music from Belfast blues & rock band Captain Obvious, a costume contest, and some spooky surprises that are sure to thrill attendees. Food and refreshments are included with the $10 ticket and proceeds benefit Belfast Maskers, Belfast’s long-time theater troupe.

Organizer Sasha Kutsy planned the fundraiser to celebrate the life of Gary Hinte, the self-proclaimed “World’s Greatest Artist,” who passed away in 2021. “This is a wonderful opportunity to own a Gary Hinte painting,” said Kutsy. “Gary painted murals and sets in L.A. for years. His oil paintings depict landscapes from the various places where he lived as well as political and whimsical pieces. We want people to come experience Gary’s work and take a part of him home with you.” During his time living in Belfast, Hinte designed and painted several sets for the Belfast Maskers.

The art auction takes place in both live and silent forms. Other art that will be auctioned includes works by Neil Parent, Jeri Finch, Susan Tobey White, Stu Henderson, Lee Parent, Gail Wartell, Ed Nadeau, Penny Linn and David Estey.
