The Frankfort Historical Society will host its monthly meeting upstairs at the Frankfort Congregational Church at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Please use the front entrance.

Guest speakers Judy and Norris Staples, longtime Frankfort residents now residing in Searsport, have a fact-filled program, topics to include agriculture in Frankfort, a Civil War rifle and a surprise item they recently found in their attic.

The society will also sell tickets to win a bronze bear, created and donated by renowned bronze artist and sculptor Forest (Toby) Hart. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Historical Society member. Tickets are also available at the Waldo Pierce Reading Room and Library. Drawing for the standing bronze bear is to be held after a slideshow presentation of Frankfort’s Vietnam veterans, those who contributed information and photos. All are welcome to attend.

Proceeds from the drawing will go toward the Veterans Memorial Fund, established to pay for a new Frankfort Veterans Honor Roll.

Pa’tridge prediction

This week’s Pa’tridge Prediction indicates that with leaves mostly off trees after the recent storm, birds will be easier to see, a real plus when hunting in tight covers. Also, woodcock migrations should begin this week. So if you can get out, now certainly is a good time.

Weekly quote

“By the 1st of March the crows begin to search, by the 1st of April they are sitting still, by the 1st of May they are flown away, creeping greedily back again with October wind and rain.” — Old-time motto
