Hello Monroe!

There are now way more leaves on our lawn than on the surrounding trees. Raking may be a better workout, but wow, was our investment in a commercial grade leaf blower worth it! The wind has been in my favor, and aside from a large pile left for Oliver and Nolan to jump in, I’ve been able to blow a huge quantity of leaves toward the back edge of our property. On a warm day, it’s not such a bad chore!

Trunk or treat and more!

Trunk or Treat and More! is happening at Gesner Park on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m., with something for everyone. Enjoy tractor-pulled hayrides, pumpkin activities, trick or treating, fresh pressed cider, a chili cookoff and potluck, and more! This free event, open to all, is brought to you by the Friends of Gesner Park.

Church fair

A reminder that the Monroe Community Church, 28 West Main St., will host its annual Fall Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 29. Come and find coffee and cinnamon rolls, other sweets, food and baked goods, bread, pies, candy, plants, books, soups to go, white elephant table, crafts and more!

Worth celebrating

Happy wedding anniversary to Christian and Samantha Tomlin of Monroe! The two celebrated 25 years together on Oct. 18.

A successful soccer season for the Monroe Mites has officially come to an end! Two teams, made up of children in grades 1-3, primarily from Monroe, but also from Jackson and Brooks, practiced multiple times weekly and played Saturday morning games at fields around the county. The teams would like to thank Buxton’s for donating paint to line the field at Gesner Park and the Monroe Lions Club for the use of their concessions building and providing pizza from Monroe Country Store for the end of season celebration.
