I don’t know how people ever managed without power steering. I briefly lost my power steering in my car this past week; I used muscles I didn’t know I had trying to get the car to turn!

I’m still working on getting the three little kittens used to human touch so they can be adopted. I have petted all three and have been able to pick up two of them, but only when they’re eating. I’ve given them (temporary) names: Franny, Alice and Betsy. Franny, the tortoiseshell, is the littlest and bravest. Alice, the muted tortoiseshell, is the most playful. Betsy, the torbie, is the “problem child,” as she is the most wary.

The Unity Town Office will be closed on Election Day, Nov. 8. The elections will be held at the Community Center on School Street.

About the country treasurer position: I learned last week from the Secretary of State’s Office that write-in votes for undeclared candidates for county offices are not counted under state law. (The deadline for declaring as a write-in was Sept. 9.) I appreciate all the support and will seek another avenue.

Special thanks to the kids from The Ecology Learning Center. Last week we trimmed back some overgrown bushes and removed some others that were dead at Pond Cemetery. They also picked up trash and fallen limbs.

The Open Door provides a free lunch every Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Unity Area Food Pantry on Depot Street. This past week they served baked fish and mashed potatoes. Many thanks to the volunteers who serve their community.

When I went to the Unity Auction House for this week’s auction, I bid for (and won) an old Unity Fire Chief helmet for the UFD. They will put it on display along with some other memorabilia. It had been Alton McCormick’s. Unity Auction House is now accepting consignments. Please reach out to them through their Facebook page.
