Happy Wanderers Hike

BELFAST — Thursday, Nov. 3, 10 a.m.: Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust, Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital’s Journey to Health program for a Happy Wanderers Hike at the Little River Trail. This trail is 7-plus miles, so hikers will do an out-and-back section, totaling approximately 2 miles. The trail ambles along the river with some ups and downs. The terrain is considered moderate-slightly difficult (personal perspective included).  Bring hiking poles, if you would like. It is hunting season; wear orange!

Mount Tuck Preserve Trail Opening and Celebration

STOCKTON SPRINGS — Friday, Nov. 4, 2 p.m.: Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust for the opening of its new 1.8-mile one-way trail on the 244-acre Mount Tuck Preserve. Trail snacks. Walk the trail at 2:30 p.m. at your own pace. The moderate difficulty trail gradually climbs to the 565-foot summit and a scenic viewpoint  Hiking out and back takes between 1:15 and 2 hours depending upon pace. From Stockton Springs: Turn north on Route 1. In 4.1 miles, turn left onto Meadow Road. Continue 0.6 miles and park on right (north) side of road. Meet at trail kiosk.

Holiday Fair

MONROE — Friday, Nov. 4, 4 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Monroe Community Library Holiday Fair, Monroe Town Hall, 8 Swan Lake Ave. Two-day sale of holiday décor, ornaments, collectibles, decorations, selection of cooking, travel, holiday and children’s books CDs, DVDs and more. Homemade baked goods and a children’s craft table on Saturday.

‘Nowhere Left’

BELFAST — Friday, Nov. 4, 5:30 p.m.: Exhibition opening and artist reception for prints and paintings by Paul Valentine at Waterfall Arts, 256 High St. Valentine’s work celebrates the beauty and power of the earth and asks the viewer to consider the impact that their lifestyle leaves upon it. Hunters Breakfast

SEARSPORT — Saturday, Nov. 5, 4 to 9 a.m.: Boy Scouts will serve breakfast at the Searsport Community Building, 42 Prospect St. Suggested donation is $8 per person. For an additional $5 donation, they will fill a thermos.

Fall Fair at First Congregational Church

SEARSPORT — Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The Fall Fair at First Congregational Church of Searsport, sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship, returns in Curtis Hall after a two-year hiatus, with baked goods, homemade jams, jellies and pickles, a white elephant table, creative handiwork, lots of jewelry, a silent auction, and a warm lunch with a variety of quiche and a fruit cup. The Missions Committee will be selling baked beans and a variety of breads for a take-home meal, with proceeds benefiting Florida hurricane relief.

Scottish Women Curlers

BELFAST — Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: United States Women’s Curling Association Scottish Women’s 2022 Curling Tour at Belfast Curling Club on Route 3. Curlers will be escorted onto the ice at 9 a.m. by members of Portland’s bagpipe band, the Dunlap Highland Band, to start the competition. Team play begins at 9 a.m. with a second draw at 2 p.m. Public welcome.

Polio Plus Fundraiser

UNITY — Saturday, Nov. 5, 2 p.m.: Unity Area Rotary Club will raise funds for Polio Plus at Stone Tree Farm and Cidery on Albion Road. Music by Kate McCann. The Ugly Dumpling food truck will also be there serving up food.

Haystack Mountain Family Storybook Hike

LIBERTY — Sunday, Nov. 6, 1 p.m.: Guided storybook hike to Haystack Mountain’s summit. Liberty Library has provided the children’s book “Over in the Forest” by Marianne Berkes in story walk format; individual pages of the book will be situated along the 1-mile loop trail from base to summit. Winter Bird Watching

BELFAST — Saturday, Nov. 12, 8:30-10 a.m.: Winter is the best season for seeing birds in Belfast Harbor. Several Arctic species come “down south” for better eating; resident birds are also here. Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition’s Ron Harrell and Gary Gulezian will lead a bird watch on the second Saturday each month at the Belfast footbridge with their telescopes. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather.  Schedule: Nov. 12, Dec. 10; in 2023, Jan. 14, Feb. 11 and March 11.

Geology Walk

BELFAST — Sunday, Nov. 13, 10 a.m.: Join the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition for a 2 1/2-hour Geology Walk with geologist Brooks McKinney. Meet at Head of Tide Preserve in Belfast, conserved by Coastal Mountains Land Trust. The Sunday hike avoids hunters during deer hunting season; however, wearing blaze orange clothing is recommended. BELFAST — Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m.-noon, Waldo County Y: Fix your broken stuff — keep your lamps lit for the dark winter nights, repair those holes in your clothes to stay warm. Start thinking about all the holiday favorites that add cheer to your homes. Bring us small electric  appliances (bring spare parts), clothing that may need a hem or buttons. Save money and keep things out of the landfills.
