KENNEWICK, Wash. — Alexandra (Zayac) Bilyard passed away of natural causes on Oct. 15, 2022, in Kennewick, Wash. She was 98 years old. She was born on Nov. 6, 1923, in Troy, N.Y., the youngest daughter of and Mary (Messick) and Alexander Zayac.

Alexandra “Alex” graduated from Troy (N.Y.) High School in 1941. She then attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., graduating with a degree in art. While at Pratt, she met Richard Bilyard, and after she graduated, they married.

After raising her two sons, Gordon and Bruce, she worked for her husband’s architectural firm as an interior designer for over 25 years.

Alex was a longtime resident of both Palermo and Searsport, Maine. She and Richard were avid curlers and golfers, and belonged to the Belfast Curling Club and Waterville Country Club for many years.

Alex was very skilled in a variety of hand crafts, including knitting and crocheting. She was an avid gardener, and loved to grow flowers and vegetables. One of her greatest passions was creating exquisitely detailed Ukrainian Easter eggs. She created a great number of brightly colored eggs over the 40 years she practiced the art.

Alex was predeceased by her husband Richard, her older sister, Kay, and her son Gordon. She is survived by her sister, Marion; her son, Bruce; her grandchildren, Jessica, Maddison, Nickolas and Donaca; and her great-grandchildren, Alexander and Grant.

Alex was a great mom, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice, in memoriam to Alex Bilyard.
