Brendon Owen Coffin

Sincere condolences to Crystal Coffin, longtime Ridgetop Restaurant and Mammie’s waitress, and her entire family on the loss of Crystal’s son, Brendon. Brendon was 22 and courageously battled a severe heart defect since birth. There will be a benefit spaghetti supper at Mammie’s on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m.

This notice will run too late if you read the physical copy of The Republican Journal, but hopefully you online readers will stop by and express your sympathy. The cost to attend the supper is only “by donation,” and will feature a “big Chinese raffle,” with a chance to win a pallet of wood pellets, one chord of cut firewood, $250 cash, and many other prizes. For more information, call Mammie’s, in Unity, at 948-1515.

Nov. 5 marked three years since my grandmother, Sallyann, passed away. As she would say, “Don’t say goodbye. Say ‘so long’ because ‘goodbyes’ are forever.”

On Nov. 11 (Veterans Day), honorary Freedom-resident-for-life Roy Ward will turn an incredible 103 years old. Roy moved to the Bangor Veterans Home a couple of years ago, but as he lived in Freedom for probably longer than any two other residents put together, I think he has earned the honorary title.

His family is soliciting birthday cards from friends, family, and strangers alike. If you want to wish Roy a happy birthday, you can send cards to Roy Ward, Bangor Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401.
