BELFAST — Acclaimed songwriter Larry John McNally performs at The Underground Lounge Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.

McNally is a skilled guitarist and veteran performer who has been putting out albums since the ’80s, but he has become best known for his writing, which has captured the imagination of pop royalty. Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, Don Henley, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan and the Staples Singers have all recognized and immortalized his songs, which form a compelling blend of folk, soul and blues, combined with evocative lyrics that he accurately calls “cinematic.” Raitt described him as “a great songwriter that went under the radar.”

McNally, a Bangor native who spent his musically formative years in New Orleans before collecting gold records and touring the globe, is back in Maine, offering a unique opportunity for locals to appreciate this world-class tunesmith.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, cash only at the door. The Underground Lounge is located in the basement of the Belfast Maskers Theatre at 17 Court St., hosting indie, folk and pop performers from around the area Thursday evenings.
