Hello Monroe!

I think my struggle with transitioning to winter because of such warm early November temperatures has abruptly come to an end. I’m thankful I spent the last warm day picking a lot of lawn furniture and toys up around the yards, as snow quickly made an appearance.

Though the cold seems more uncomfortable as I get up there in years, it was so much fun to help Oliver bundle up and watch him attack the dooryard with gusto and his little shovel the morning the first snow blanketed our driveway. His excitement is contagious and certainly brings magic back to the season for me.

Holiday gathering: Monroe style

Join friends and neighbors at the Monroe Town Hall on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m., for Holiday Gathering: Monroe Style.

Coordinated by Friends of Gesner Park, this free event will feature the opportunity to eat cookies and other baked goods, create and drink a custom hot chocolate from the hot chocolate bar put on by the Monroe Country Store, play dreidel, take a photograph with Santa, see the tree donated by the McGraths of Monroe lit at 5 p.m., and maybe more!

All are invited to attend and bask in some holiday cheer.

Tourtiere pie to go

The Monroe Community Church is taking orders for Tourtiere pies. This French-Canadian pie is made from ground meat, onions, savory seasoning and baked in a pie crust. Traditionally served for special occasions such as Christmas Eve, the church hopes you’ll enjoy this pie during the upcoming holiday season.

The pies will be made fresh in the kitchen of the church on Saturday, Dec. 10, and available for pickup that same day between 11 a.m. and noon. Pies can be taken cooked or uncooked, with instructions provided for cooking and reheating.

Orders are due by Dec. 2; for an order form and more information, contact Judy Nealley at jmnealley@yahoo.com.
