I so enjoy seeing all the Christmas lights when I go out and about; not so much the dogs and cat demanding to eat at 4 p.m.
I’m sure many of you have seen the Giving Tuesday initiatives on TV or in your inboxes. Not to worry, if you missed it you can still donate to your favorite charity (or charities!) and don’t forget to request a matching donation from your employer if possible. There are so many worthy causes in our area — from food pantries to pet food pantries, from the Waldo County Woodshed project to the myriad pet rescue organizations, you’re sure to find one that speaks to you.
Veterans Wreaths
Thank you, thank you for all your donations for the Wreaths Across America Veterans Wreaths for our Jackson area cemeteries. We have reached our goal of 108 wreaths for each of the veterans’ headstones. They will be delivered on Dec. 17. There will be a recognition ceremony. We will know the time closer to the day. FMI: call Marlene 722-3350.
Jackson land auction
The sealed bids submitted for the sale of the town-acquired property on Sullivan Road were not opened as expected on Nov. 29. An injunction was filed to temporarily stop the sale. The bids will be held until such time as the court has determined whether the sale can be by sealed bid, or if the property will have to be sold through a Realtor. All monies will be returned to bidders in the event the property is sold through the regular real estate market. Hopefully the situation will be resolved soon, perhaps by the next Select Board meeting on Dec. 13.
Free tech classes
The National Digital Equity Center is offering a number of different topics, starting Jan. 4, 2023, through the Regional School Unit 3 Adult & Community Ed program. These will include such topics as iPad Basics, Windows 11 Basic, and Frauds and Scams. FMI: rsu3.maineadulted.org.
RSU 3 job openings
Like most industries and much of the country, RSU 3 has many job openings. These include everything from a variety of teaching positions to cooks, custodians and drivers of buses and vans. If you are looking for a change, or just looking, please check with Mount View’s central office, 948-6136, or email cvines@rsu3.org.
Happy National Lard Day! For all you food lovers, celebrate traditional pure pork lard, now enjoying a resurgence across American food culture.
And happy (early) birthday to my hubby — now he’s as old as I am, 60 and counting! Dec. 8 is the birth anniversary of Frederick “Toots” Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals fame — one of the reggae greats we were lucky to have seen in concert.
