After days of rain, the skies have cleared and a full moon hung over the harbor early this morning showing a shimmering path of light across the water. Our local eagle sat in the pine tree by the harbor the other day and afterward two crows flew around the top of the same tree. Through my binoculars, I could see that the eagle had left the remains of a fish in the top of the pine and the crows were eating it.

The sun now is setting over by Sears Island almost to the point where it will start moving back across the harbor after Dec. 21, the winter solstice. It must be the reason the tradition of bringing trees into our homes began as the lights on the tree cheer us all up! Driving around at night and seeing all the trees in the windows as well as candles lighting the way home generates a warm and cozy feeling. This is the time of year to reach out to old friends and new and perhaps to make some new memories. Stay well!

Thought for the week

I love the scents of winter! For me, it’s all about the feeling you get when you smell pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread and spruce. — Taylor Swift.
