Select Board member Elaine Higgins is out and about seeking petition signatures to run for reelection. She came up to the house on Saturday and Catherine and I enthusiastically signed her petition. Personally, I endorse her reelection and appreciate how responsive she is to constituent concerns. Good luck, Elaine!

I have finally started playing ice hockey again after a two-year COVID hiatus. I struggled to find an adult league that played at reasonable hours. Over the last couple of winters I called around to various rinks in the central/Midcoast Maine area, but all their adult league times were downright unreasonable. No matter how much I wanted to play, I couldn’t justify starting a game at 9 or 10 p.m. on a work day.

However, in early October I found a league at Rockport’s Midcoast Recreation Center — where I played club hockey in high school — that plays at 7 a.m. on Sundays. Perfect! Sunday mornings are now my favorite time of the week. I cherish the early mornings and 45-minute drive to the MRC. We play for an hour and a half with barely any substitutes, so it’s a great bang for your buck. I highly encourage anyone who is in a similar bind as I was to contact me to find out more details about this league. We could always use more players.

Of course, you must determine for yourself if 7 a.m. on a Sunday is more reasonable than 9 p.m. on any other day of the week!
