National Wreaths Across America Day

Saturday, Dec. 17: In morning ceremonies, wreaths will be laid on the graves of veterans in cemeteries around Waldo County in conjunction with the laying of wreaths in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia in this annual event. Check with your town office to learn about locations in your town.

LINCOLNVILLE CENTER — Sunday, Dec. 18, 3 p.m.:  Mount View High School Chamber Singers perform in the Meeting House, home of the United Christian Church (UCC), 18 Searsmont Road, Route 173. Menorah lighting

BELFAST — Sunday, Dec. 18, 4 p.m.: The annual menorah lighting will take place at sundown on the first night of Hanukkah. The community celebrates with music and readings. An additional candle will be lit each night of Hanukkah.

Children’s Quilt Raffle

SEARSPORT — Ends Monday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m.: Carver Memorial Library, 12 Union St., is raffling off a beautiful and nostalgic quilt featuring Liberty Graphics children’s book images. Handmade by local quilter Louise Seekins. Proceeds will benefit children’s materials and programs. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and are available at the front desk. SEARSPORT — Wednesday, Dec. 21, 4 to 6 p.m.: Come celebrate with a walk past hundreds of luminaries on the path with an illuminated StoryWalk, free cookies, cocoa and recorded music, courtesy of the Friends of Sears Island. The featured book is “The Shortest Day” by Susan Cooper, illustrated by Carson Ellis. FMI: A decorated tree will look over donations of nonperishable food items and toiletries for the Congregational Methodist Food Cupboard in Searsport.
