BELFAST — The Waldo County Democratic Committee voted Dec. 4 to make charitable donations to two Waldo County organizations and has sent $500 checks to the Greater Bay Area Ministerium and the Waldo County Woodshed.

According to a press release, the committee selected these recipients based on the goal of helping area residents with food and home heating costs this winter.

GBAM was formed decades ago to address the concerns of area faith leaders around unmet resident needs that are sometimes referred to church leaders.

Waldo County Woodshed is a group of volunteers who gather Saturday mornings in Searsmont to process and prepare donated firewood for ¼-cord free distributions to residents in need across the county.
