Fire Department news

Our most difficult call recently was a mutual aid to Brooks. As this was a while ago, I don’t have a lot of details, but it is noteworthy that one of the interior teams fighting this fire was made up of two lady firefighters from Morrill. Lt. Haley Norris and Firefighter Lee Pellecchia donned their Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCUA) and worked their way into the attic to get this fire under control.

We have had other calls including a car accident on North Main Street as well as a medical assist for CPR.

The visit by Santa hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary was well received. A very large number of children were out to visit Old St. Nick and enjoy the snacks provided. Thank you, Santa, for again taking the time to visit Morrill at this busy time of the year for you.

We have another profile of a neighbor of ours here in Morrill who has given of himself to help us all by joining the department. Tom Fish joined the department over a year ago and was one of three new Morrill firefighters who attended the basic firefighter course held in Liberty last winter. He and wife Gretchen (an Auxiliary member) live in South Morrill with their almost-2-year-old son Leo. They are remodeling the farm most of us know as the Holmbraker place. Thank you to Tom and Gretchen for being involved in helping your community.

Keep those bottles and cans coming! We will report on the fundraising from this project soon, as we are making a change in what the monies will be set aside for starting in January 2023.

Be safe. — Jethro Pease
