Journal letter: We must make life better in Latin American countries to discourage immigration

Out of curiosity, what do you suppose the course of the North American continent would have been had the Native Americans imposed a “Remain in England/Europe” rule on our ancestors in the 17th century, and possessed the weaponry to enforce it?

Remember that the first Caucasian settlers in this country came as refugees from the Wars of the Reformation, during which Catholics and Protestant sects killed each other by the thousands in the name of their loving God.

People don’t leave their native lands because they feel too comfortable there.  If we want to discourage immigration from Latin America, we must make life better at home for all Latin Americans.
