Happy New Year to all those near and dear, and far and missed! May the New Year see the completion of prior projects, and the fulfillment of new dreams. Safe travels to the millions who take to the air, or get behind the wheel, to visit loved ones.

There will be no Jackson News column on Jan. 5, 2023, as I hope to be sipping a pina colada under the palm trees, if the travel gods are with us.

If you enjoy watching the New Year’s Day parades on TV, I would definitely recommend the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia. This world-famous musical parade is full of fantastical costumes and fabulously crafted floats, with competitions for best string band, comedic outfits, fancy brigade and more. You can find it live streamed here: https://www.myworldevents.com/parade/mummers-philadelphia.html.

Town Office

The Town Office will be closed New Year’s weekend, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 and 2, 2023. But, the transfer station will be open, as per usual, on Sunday, Jan. 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Keep it local

If you want an evening out, and a short drive within Jackson — though all are welcome! — come to Tattooed Dad Brewing Co. They will be open for one weekend each month at the beginning of 2023. In January they will be open Jan. 20-22, 2023, with music from Milk and Honey Rebellion on that Saturday.

In February they will be open Feb. 10-12, 2023, with music from Jaded Ravins on that Saturday. As always, please check the website for updates: tattooeddadbrewingco.com. And they thank you for supporting their family business.

Free tech classes

Do your New Year’s resolutions include upping your tech expertise? If so, the National Digital Equity Center is offering a number of classes in January, February and March, 2023, through the Regional School Unit 3 Adult & Community Education program. These begin on Jan. 4, 2023, with iPad Basics. In February is Windows 11 Basic, for three Wednesdays starting Feb. 8, 2023. March 1 is Frauds & Scams, March 15 is Using Facebook Securely, and March 22 is Google Classroom for Parents & Students. Please call 568-3426, or go online, rsu3.maineadulted.org, to register.
