Hello Monroe!

As the hustle and bustle of the holidays winds down and deeper winter starts to take hold, I hope you’ll find moments to reflect on all that went well for you in 2022, and think ahead to all you hope to accomplish and celebrate in 2023.

Oliver isn’t as fond of the snowmobile as he was a few winters ago, but we hope to get out often to play in clean snow and take deep breaths of the cold, fresh air. He really took to camping last summer and is already talking of taking our boat and tent to Lobster Lake — even wondering aloud the other day if we would “catch some lobsters” there!

Worth celebrating

Happy belated wedding anniversary to Scott and Brea Milliken of Monroe. The love birds celebrated seven years together on Dec. 19.

Scott and Brea were married in Monroe at what is now our farm; it was owned at the time by Dean and Terrie Brown. Prior to the Browns’ living at this address, many of you probably remember Alec and Elizabeth “Bitsa” Turner. The Turners were wed at the Monroe Church and held their reception on the farm, a few years ago now!

I met a guest at a wedding at what we now call The Barn at Rosemoore this past summer. She spoke fondly of attending Alec and Bitsa’s reception, in the same barn, though she reported, laughing, that goats were among the guests at that event!

New breakfast option

Looking for a new location to eat breakfast out? Make the drive to the Monroe Country Store! Place your order at the counter and find a seat in the dining area; our favorite table is the one in front of the big storefront window. Eggs cooked to order, breakfast meat on the side, toast choices, breakfast sandwich combinations and even omelets are now options. Thank you, Kristin and crew, for expanding your menu with reasonable pricing and inviting the community in.

While you’re ordering your breakfast, sign up for the cribbage tournament that will take place throughout the month of January. Tournament winner gets a $50 gift certificate to the store.

Library news

The Monroe Community Library will be closed for the holidays on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2 and 16, 2023. Regular hours resume Jan. 4, 2023 (Monday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday 4 to 7 p.m.). Plan to bring your little ones to Storytime on Saturday, scheduled to happen Jan. 14 and 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. A story, craft and snack will keep them busy!

Have a great final week of 2022!
