BELFAST — Charles B. Holmes, 88, of Belfast passed away peacefully at home with loved ones on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022.  He was the son of Clement and Blanche Holmes.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marian Walker Holmes; brother Bernie “Bub” Holmes; three daughters, Sheila Leach, Toni Story (husband Steve), Paula Holmes (husband Tracy Wheeldon) and daughter-in-law Becky McIntire; grandchildren Darice, Mandy, Heather, Matthew, Tyler, Erica, Felicia, Ethan and Liza; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and some very close friends, Mel, Arthur, and the whole Simmons family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clement and Blanche; sisters Louise Butler (husband Albert) and Cathy Gilmore (husband Rodney); nephews Donald and Johnny; niece Annette; and sons-in-law Paul and Sid “Bubby.”

Charlie served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1962. He worked in several shoe factories and then in refrigeration at Penobscot Frozen Foods, where he retired in 1996.

He enjoyed hunting, old car trips with friends and family, feeding and watching the birds, kayaking, walking on blueberry hill, and — back in the day — cross-country skiing and motorcycling. We could always count on him to fix anything he was presented with, and he enjoyed the challenge we sometimes created. He enjoyed anything and everything that was family-oriented.

To honor his wishes, there will be no service.
