Volunteer Fire Department notes, Dec. 26

Recent activity includes responding to a call for assist to the Belmont Fire Department for traffic control. Morrill Utility 30 was assigned to reroute traffic on Route 131 at the Higgins Hill/Robinson School House roads intersection on Dec. 19 as the Belmont and Belfast departments were working at a fatal accident just south of the Morrill Line on Route 131. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.

Please be extra careful driving this time of year as you may encounter ice conditions at any time.

Ten Morrill VFD members responded for a call for assistance from the Brooks Fire Department for a structure fire at approximately 6 p.m. on Dec. 20. Engine 32, Tanker 35 and Utility 30 responded to the scene with nine members. A tenth member remained at the station as standby.

Lyndon Whitcomb as operator of the tanker saw his first response to an actual call. Thank you, Lyndon,
now training has more of a meaning. We were very fortunate to be able to provide Brooks with six well trained interior qualified firefighters, S.C.B.A. trained, and three of whom are ladies. Returning back to the station at approximately 10 p.m., hot chocolate and snacks were ready, but before enjoying a warm beverage, everyone pitched in filling air bottles, reloading hose, washing S.C.B.A kits, masks and individual turnout gear.

If you would like to donate to the Morrill Fire Department for these items, it would be muchly appreciated. Coca Cola, Pepsi, Diet Coke, or other sodas and a case or two of bottled water. You can leave it at the Morrill Store for us or contact Jethro, Dean Rolands or Randy Markham.

Again, thank you for supporting us.

Enough for now. Happy New Year and please be safe driving as well as with your heating appliances. Never thaw pipes with a torch; hair dryers work well. — Jethro Pease

Quote of the week

I’m too blessed to be stressed, too grateful to be hateful.
When life gets you down, you have too…
LOVE a little deeper, LAUGH a little louder, SMILE a little bigger,
GIVE a little more, FORGIVE a little quicker, HOLD the ones
you love a little tighter. Because tomorrow is never promised. — Kelly’s Treehouse
