The Boston Red Sox made news with the contract signing of Rafael Devers, paying the 26-year-old third baseman $331 million for 11 years.

Devers is a Sox homegrown player, having started at the age of 17 with the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Red Sox in 2014, and made his way through the system to promotion to Boston in 2017 when he made his debut on third for the Red Sox.

The contract has Sox fans talking.

That leads the MaineStay Media/VillageSoup sports staff to ask, in its latest poll: Are you happy the Boston Red Sox signed third baseman Rafael Devers to a 11-year, $331 million contract?

In a previous poll, readers were asked: Do you think it is time for the New England Patriots to move on from coach/general manager Bill Belichick?

Thirty-nine percent answered: “Yes, the game has passed Bill by. Plus, he had no real succession plan at quarterback after Tom Brady, is terrible at hiring coordinators and his overall (and most recent) drafts have been nothing to write home about.”

Another 31.7 percent said: “What? Are you serious? He is the GOAT. Six Super Bowl championships with Patriots, eight overall in his career. You trippin’.”

Twenty-nine-point-three said: “Well, perhaps owner Robert Kraft should try to get him to hire more qualified coaches and draft help to get the Patriots back on track and help Bill pass Don Shula as a coach with most wins in league history.”
