BELFAST — A 30-year-old man jumped off Veterans Memorial Bridge Wednesday night, Jan. 11, and survived what police believe was an attempted suicide.
Belfast Police Chief Bobby Cormier told The Republican Journal in an email message that a man jumped from the Route 1 bridge around 8:10 p.m. and was later found sitting near the east end of the bridge, cold, wet and injured.
The man was taken to Waldo County General Hospital, Cormier said. “After speaking with him, we believe it was an attempted suicide,” the chief said in his email. “He is 30 years of age and from the Belfast area. Hopefully he gets the help he needs and makes a quick recovery.”
