Greetings, Brooks. We’ve just had our first really cold day and I’m watching a very pretty snowfall. A lot of people complain about winter, but I think the change of season is special. A few organizations had their monthly meeting this past week and I want to let you know what’s happening. Many thanks to all the participants.

It seems early, but the Brooks Rec Department is already planning events for the upcoming year. It’s possible that we will sponsor a Cabin Fever Reliever-type event in February that will feature a soup/stew and bread dinner with a baked goods auction. More information to follow as it becomes available.

The 2023 Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, in the Community Park (weather permitting). As usual, candy donations are most welcome.

It is unfortunate, but due to extreme financial constraints, Brooks will not be having fireworks this year. The parade will go on and there may be additional Fourth of July 4 events in the park. Stay tuned.

The Marsh River Theater Board has begun planning for the 2023 season. Some upcoming events: Dancing With the Local Stars, Marsh River’s Got Talent, an Open Mic Night and two shows. We’re very excited to let you know that we will begin hosting a monthly Contra Dance. I will let you know just as soon as plans for this are finalized!

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Play Reading Group will feature “Rabbit Hole” by David Lindsay-Abaire, winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. “Rabbit Hole” charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day.

This event takes place in Brooks and the cost is $20 per reader with a script to take home. Join us as we read plays aloud together. No performance, no rehearsals, just reading a new play with friends. All are welcome, no theater experience required. To register, email MAGoscinski@gmail.com.

Until next time … peace.
