Both the Town Office and the library now have jigsaw puzzles to swap, so you can bring in a puzzle and take a new one to work on.

Town Office

Recycling is next scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 26. Any outstanding taxes from 2020 are due by Feb. 28 to avoid foreclosure.

Library

The next Story Hour at the library is on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. Bring the children for the joy of having a story read to them and snacks with other children.

Penobscot Marine Museum

On Wednesdays, Feb. 1 and March 1, Penobscot Marine Museum will hold an introduction to tatting workshop at 6 p.m. on Zoom. On Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. on Zoom, the museum’s Fog & Ice Speaker Series continues with “Fog Along the Maine Coast” with meteorologist Mike Clair. The events are free, with a suggested donation of $5. Participants will receive a materials list. Registration is required. For more information or to register, visit penobscotmarinemuseum.org/events-list/, or contact Jeana Ganskop at jganskop@pmm-maine.org or 548-2529.

Mosman Park Ice Rink in Searsport will be ready soon and will be open as soon as it gets some consistently cold weather. Should be a great activity for the kids (of all ages).

The other day on a calm morning I saw a man in a motorboat heading straight out of the harbor past my window. Where would someone be going in a motorboat at this time of year? It must have been pretty cold on the water. We still have not had much snow yet here in Stockton Springs.

My friend Michele came to visit from New Hampshire and gave me her virus/cold so it’s been a long week of recovering from being sick. Best thing to do is to stay home and binge-watch your favorite show or do a jigsaw puzzle. My sickness involved a lot of sleeping, so there wasn’t a lot of energy available for activities. Tip: Make sure to have some chicken noodle soup in the pantry, lots of Kleenex and some cold and cough medicine ready for use. By the time I recovered enough to get to the grocery store, I noted that most of the cold and cough medicine shelves are empty, so illness really must be going around.

The next full moon, which is the Snow Moon, will be on Sunday, Feb. 5. Super Bowl Sunday is Feb. 12 — always a big event, though more so when the Patriots were playing. Time to stock up on chips and dip for all the football games over the next few weeks. Winter may just get us yet!

Thought for the week: “There is nothing better than curling up with a good book and sitting in front of the fire on winter evenings.”— Leo Sayer
