FREEDOM — After a brief illness, Richard “Dick” Henry Kershaw II, 79, of Freedom went home to be with his Lord Jan. 13, 2023.

He was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Haverhill, Mass., to Charles R. and Carlotta (Bachini) Kershaw.  As a teen Richard joined the Marines. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, honorably discharged as an E5.  He was very proud of his military service and of being a Marine veteran.  After his service he worked at Verizon in COEI where he met Kathleen. They married in 1981, and relocated to Freedom in 1982, making it their home.

After retiring in 1991, Richard was rural mail carrier, and then drove a school bus for Regional School Unit 3.  Never one to be idle, he explored anything that caught his eye, harness racing, building a boat and an airplane, coaching local farm and Little League teams, scuba diving, Italian language classes, adult ice hockey, and certified as an umpire.

Richard also was active in several churches in the area; his faith grounded and lifted him. Every day started with morning devotions.

Richard was predeceased by his brother Charles Kershaw Jr., brother-in-law Paul Cosio, sister-in-law Pauline Kershaw, and niece Staci Ferguson.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Kershaw; daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Tim McEwen of Knox; sister Sylvia Cosio of Atkinson N.H.; brother James Kershaw of Haverhill, Mass.; sister Donna Kershaw of Atkinson, N.H.; his wife’s family, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, special friends and hand-picked family.

His hearty laugh, ready smile, quick wit and strong opinions will be missed. The “smartest dog ever,” TopKick, was his pride and joy.

As per his request there will be no services. Please remember him kindly, and continue sharing his upbeat love of life.
