Fran Gonzalez has lived in Waldo County since 2006 and has been part of the Journal news team since January 2018. Most of his career he worked as a graphic designer, but he has always enjoyed telling stories through images.     Katie Spotz has rowed across the Atlantic and run across New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. Recently the Portland-based Coast Guard officer passed through Belfast on her 360-mile bike ride along the coast of Maine to raise funds for clean water in Uganda.

    Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has restarted its weekly updates because of recent increases in case counts. Since Saturday, 732 positive cases have been verified by the agency, with more sustained high numbers likely, according to Dr. Nirav Shah, director of the Maine CDC.

    Montville’s county ARPA funds awarded to internet coalition

    Montville voters gave Select Board members the green light to award the Southwestern Waldo County Broadband Coalition $20,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funds at a special town meeting Aug.31. Residents also approved spending $60,000 for continued maintenance of several dirt roads in town. A planned timber harvest this winter will have 130 tractor-trailer trucks hauling wood from Morrill Road.
