Fran Gonzalez has lived in Waldo County since 2006 and has been part of the Journal news team since January 2018. Most of his career he worked as a graphic designer, but he has always enjoyed telling stories through images.     One person from Waldo County has died from COVID-19, along with two others across the state. All of Maine counties except for Lincoln are now considered areas of “high” transmission.

    The state will not begin to enforce the requirement for health care workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 until Oct. 29, giving providers additional time to get their shots. COVID-19 cases reached a one-day high not seen since January.

    Belmont fentanyl operation busted

    Drugs and weapons were seized from a Belmont home Aug. 31 after the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted a search of a Back Belmont Road home. Three people were charged and one was arrested in connection with the search on drug-dealing charges.

    Three more people associated with Mount View Complex have tested positive for coronavirus, in addition to the three cases announced Monday. Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has opened an investigation into the outbreak.

    Three people associated with the school have recently tested positive for COVID-19. Because these people have not been in attendance at the school, classes will continue. This is the fourth COVID-19 outbreak in Waldo County in recent weeks.

    CASS students displaced by water damage; construction delays start of school

    A recent torrential downpour blew a tarp off a school roofing project, causing extensive damage as buckets of water came into the building. While repairs are made at the school, most classes will take place at the United Farmers Market of Maine on Miller and Spring streets, a.k.a. the Community Adventure School.
