Belfast — The Old Professor’s Bookshop invites the public to this month’s "Shop Talk" by noted Islesboro food historian Sandra Oliver, beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, in the parlor above the shop at 99 Main St.

Entitled “The True History of Lobster,” the lecture will debunk common myths and uncover little-known facts about Maine’s iconic seafood.

Winner of numerous prizes and lecturer at prestigious sites up and down the East Coast, Oliver has written five books on American food history, has contributed to various American and regional encyclopedias, and regularly contributes columns to newspapers and magazines.

On Islesboro, between writing, cooking, and tending her organic garden, Oliver serves as a selectman and as president of the island's famous Sewing Circle.
