Unity — The Unity College men’s soccer team had its share of ups and downs during the 2018 season when the Rams, under coach Jeremy VonOesen, booted to a 5-9 record.

Team members include seniors Lucas Manthorn, Jacob Cyr, Mark Hoyt, Jason O’Toole, Zachary Huber and Kaleb Schaner; juniors Sam Napper, Brenden Hinman, Alex Mattson, Francesco Guerrero, Nevin Sweeney and Koby Rider; sophomores Owen Beattie, Cyrus Beyer, Joseph Magnani, Tyler Stockwell, Drew Linder, Cameron Leach, Scott Layne and Gage Clapp; and freshmen Maxwell Keetch, Tanner Bell, Daniel Hoffman and Nicholas Patitucci.

The Rams were 3-4 in conference, 2-3 at home and 3-6 on the road. Unity scored 21 goals in 14 games (1.62 per game) and allowed an average of 3.17 goals.

Unity College competes in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC), which is a Division II conference in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The top four teams in the YSCC qualify for the conference tournament, thus, the Rams failed to qualify.

Guerrero led the team in scoring with seven goals and one assist, while Sweeney (3 goals), Keetch (2 goals, 2 assists), Leach (2 goals), Patitucci (2 goals, assist), Bell (goal), Beyer (goal), Hinman (goal, 2 assists), Lindner (goal, assist), Schaner (goal) and Beattie (assist) also chipped in offensively for the Rams.

Napper started all 13 games in net for Unity College and made 116 saves.

The Rams were 2-6 to start the season before winning three of their next four games: a 7-1 victory over University of Maine at Machias, a 4-0 win over Hampshire College of Amhearst, Mass. and a 2-1 overtime win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where Leach, a former Medomak Valley High School of Waldoboro graduate, scored the game-winning goal in OT.
