Geoscience professor to discuss landscape evolution Dec. 12

How the environment has changed since glaciers retreated
Dec 01, 2018

Unity — Join the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. to explore what happened to our landscape “After the Glaciers Retreated.”

SRLT presents Dr. Kevin Spigel, professor of geoscience at Unity College, appearing at 93 Main Coffee Shop, 93 Main St., in the land trust's monthly speaker series. He will explain how our environment has evolved since the glaciers receded.

How has the local Sandy Stream changed from the glacial retreat 12,000 years ago to today? Using core sampling of sediments, radiocarbon dating, stream discharge data, and Geographic Information System (GIS) data, Spigel and his students are trying to answer this question. Sandy Stream is a byproduct of the deglaciation.

All are welcome and should feel free to ask questions. Light refreshments will be available. Admission is free; a $5 donation is suggested.
