New game in town

Aug 02, 2019

Belfast — A new duplicate bridge game is now being played at noon on Fridays at The First Church in Belfast, UCC, on Church Street.

All are welcome to join the group. If you've never played duplicate bridge before, the organizers will teach you. Enter through the Spring Street door and look for tables set up either on the first or second floor, depending on other church activities.

In duplicate bridge, the same hands are played by a number of different partners. Cards are dealt before the game begins and set in racks that hold four hands. Racks are then rotated among the players by a set formula. The pairs are scored by how well they play the hands against how others played the same cards.

This Friday game is a bit more casual than many sanctioned games; it is meant to be a friendly competition.

To play, contact Fay Cunningham, 548-2407, before Friday. If you don't have a partner, she might be able to find you one.

The group will vote on rules for how it will function. Refreshments will be whatever anyone brings to contribute.

Each player will chip in $3 per game, to be reduced ASAP to $2.
