Bee experts to speak at Penobscot Shores Sept. 18

Sep 09, 2019

Belfast — Penobscot Shores’ monthly Enrichment Series for adults 50-plus will continue with “The Wonderful World of Bees” on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Penobscot Shores' Ocean House.

The Bee Whisperer, Peter Cowin, and Maine State Apiarist Jennifer Lund will shed light on the often-misunderstood life and value of bees. As experts on honey bees and other bees found in Maine, Cowin and Lund plan to discuss the different types of bees and basic bee biology; the mysterious workings of the hive and honey production; why some species are in decline; what we can do to protect them; what plants encourage bees into our landscape and basics about beekeeping.

Light refreshments will be served following the program, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle drawing for jars of honey from Penobscot Shores’ hives.

Admission is free to Enrichment Series programs, which are designed to educate, inspire and connect older adults, but registration is required. To sign up, call 338-2332.
