So-called 'Clean Corridor'

One of the many really good reasons that the so-called “Clean Corridor” must be rejected. Everything that CMP claims is false (lies).

A savvy man taught me that a deal with a bum is a bum deal. This is truly a bum deal. CMP has changed their description of this project a number of times. First it was bringing power to Massachusetts, then it was bringing power to Maine, something Maine does not need as we already produce more power than we use. Now it is back to the truth with power going to Massachusetts.

CMP claims it will help clean both water and air. Both completely false. It will not remove any carbon from the environment. It will in truth remove thousands of carbon-sequestering trees. It is not likely to generate any long-term employment once the destruction of Western Maine is complete.

In addition, it will reward Hydro Quebec for the destruction of the eastern caribou herds by drowning thousands of them when Hydro’s dam flooded their historic range. The financial payments to Maine for the destruction of miles of Western Maine are nothing short of criminal.

Finally, most Maine people are opposed to this project and Gov. Mills does not seem to give a damn. Remember that, when her first and hopefully last term comes to an end.

Christmas dinner thanks

On Dec. 25, the Adas Yoshuron Synagogue sponsored their 30th annual Christmas Dinner at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. We fed 130 guests, many volunteers and sent home dozens of additional meals.

We could not have created this delicious meal without the donations of area businesses. Gratitude and thanks go out to: Atlantic Baking Company, Allen Agency, Belfast COOP, Boynton McKay, Camden Hills Dental Care, Dig Deep Farm, Dot’s, Dr. Michelle Morrow, Ducktrap River of Maine, Eat More Cheese, Fog Bar and Cafe, French and Brawn, Good Tern COOP, Graffam Brothers Seafood Market, Green Thumb, Hannaford, Home Kitchen, In Good Company, Laugh Loud Smile Big, Main Street Market, Maine Street Meats, Mainely Poultry, Market Basket, Megunticook Market, Nautilus Restaurant, Out on a Whimsey, Plants Unlimited, Red Barn Marketplace, Rock City Cafe, Rollie’s Bar, Samoset, Seasons Downeast, Shaw’s, Sweet Sensations, Trillium Caterers, Uncle Willys, Wallace Tents, Waterfront, and Waterworks.

Please note the contributions of these local businesses and frequent them to show appreciation for their generosity.
