Body discovered near Narrows Bridge

Bucksport — Maine State Police are investigating a body discovered Wednesday afternoon near the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. As of June 30, police have still not been able to determine the identity of the individual found.

Bucksport Police received a call at approximately 2:30 p.m. June 24 about a body in the Penobscot River. 

Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said the body was retrieved and taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office for investigation and identification.

"That work will most likely begin today," he said.

McCausland said police will first look at missing persons files to try and determine the identity of the individual.

No additional information was released at this time. This story will be updated as information becomes available.
