Local reporter attacked by Fox News' Tucker Carlson

Falsely claims his address was to be revealed

Source: Facebook; On his show Monday night, Fox News host Tucker Carlson, left, took aim at local freelance reporter Murray Carpenter.

Belfast — Fox News host Tucker Carlson lashed out on air at Belfast freelance reporter Murray Carpenter Monday, July 20, according to an Associated Press story published Tuesday in The New York Times, claiming that Carpenter was working on a piece for The Times in which the address of Carlson's Maine home in Bryant Pond would be published. The story was to be about Carlson's plans to spend more time at his Maine home, where he is reportedly building a broadcast studio.

On his show Monday night, he broadcast the names of Carpenter and photographer Tristan Spinski, along with a photo of Carpenter, and threatened to publish their addresses and pictures of their homes. Some of his estimated 4 million viewers responded by publishing what they said were addresses for the two journalists, as well as a phone number for Carpenter and a photo of Spinski's home, The AP said.

Monday night, New York Times Communications tweeted, "@nytimes does not plan to publish Tucker Carlson's residence, which Carlson was aware of before his broadcast tonight."

According to The AP, Carlson also said on his show Monday, "Why is The New York Times doing a story on the location of my family's home? Well, you know why. To hurt us. To injure my wife and kids so I will shut up and stop disagreeing with them. They believe in force.”

The article goes on to note that Carlson has been targeted by protesters in the past. "In 2018," it says, "a group of about 20 demonstrators came to his home in Washington, D.C., one night, pounding on and damaging his front door while his wife was home alone. She called police while hiding in a closet, he said.

"Protesters returned another time, and sent threatening messages, he said. He eventually sold the house and moved his family."

He now has homes in Maine and Florida; the latter is his legal residence.

Carpenter's website says he focuses on science and the environment and has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wired, National Geographic, NPR, and PRI’s The World, as well as working as a radio reporter for Maine Public Broadcasting.

In Maine, he has been on the staff of Maine Times, and was a reporter and editor for The Republican Journal. He is the author of "Caffeinated: How Our Daily Habit Helps, Hurts and Hooks Us," published by Penguin Books.

Contacted by email, he declined to comment on the incident with Carlson. However, he and Spinski have both talked to other media outlets. For more on this story, see the following:

Daily....Adults, what can we we fight about. I am surprised the arguments people have that blow wide open over "who really cares". I think it is a lack of having constructive work to do. I don't care where they live. SOME people love to blow things way out of proportion, I guess they must get excited. I get bored with this kind of news. I don't care where anyone lives, what they believe in. It is just a boxing match for boredom in my mind. There are many more important things to discuss.

Actually tucker said LTC Duckworth is a coward. Like He would know, never having been shot at. Just another swiftboating lowlife who makes their light burn brighter by blowing out everyone else’s candle. Like the draft dodger trump said about POWs not being heroes because they were captured. Now that is some Commander in Chief and little trust fund tucker is just another enabler telling the stupid and hateful what they already believe.

Rick Winslow ... did you mean he misinforms the public.

Makes it sound like Tucker attacked Murray. Typical. Look at the far left rags reporting on it in those links... New York Times and Washington Post. I don't believe that Tucker insulted a military hero because they were a Democrat, other way around. That's just one person's, ACP, view on it. IMHO, Tucker IS serving his country by keeping us informed.

Cathy Areu is another story. Look that up.

Just what Bryant Pond needs, a right wing dirtbag who insults military heroes because they are Democrats, while he never has served his country.
