Pedestrian killed in Bucksport

By Fran Gonzalez | Jul 30, 2020

Bucksport — A Minnesota man was killed July 28 after he was hit while walking by a car that crossed the center line and left the road.

According to Bucksport Deputy Police Chief David Winchester, at 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, Steven Lemon, 47, was walking south on the northbound side of Route 15 in Bucksport.

A vehicle traveling south, driven by Curtis Wood, 80, of Orland, crossed into the northbound lane and hit Lemon.

Winchester said Lemon died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. “Our investigation is still ongoing,” he said, adding that there is a possibility Wood suffered a “serious medical event” that triggered the crash.

Crews from Bucksport Fire, Ambulance and Police answered the call, along with the Maine State Police, Orrington Fire EMS and the accident reconstruction team from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Bucksport Patrol Officer Gerald Lowe is leading the investigation.
