Lions rout Oak Hill, Erskine by identical 7-0 scores

Sabattus — The Belfast Area High School field hockey team dominated play Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Oak Hill, defeating the Raiders 7-0 in Class B action.

Kallie Aldus found Britt Cummings just 3:48 into the game for the Lions first goal of the game.

Jillian Ross led the Lions with three goals, all in the second half, receiving assists from Aldus and Jamie Flagg. Kelsey Jackson, Chondra Stark and Claire Banks each recorded a goal, while Skye Ellis, Ross and Banks each notched an assist.

Briana Curry, Brooke Reed and Kate Huntsberger kept the ball going toward the Oak Hill cage throughout most of the contest.

BAHS goalie Liz Anderson had one clear on one attempt for 2-0 Belfast. It was only the second shot attempted against her all season. BAHS defenders Helen Berry, Anne Harrington, Carrie Hart and Heather Read controlled the Raiders' attempts at advancing into offensive territory.

The BAHS JV squad, led by 13-year assistant coach Marci Brier, defeated Oak Hill 1-0, as Jackie Soohey scored with just five seconds remaining in the first half. Goalie Leanne Donovan kept the shutout intact for the Lions.

The Lions remained undefeated with a convincing 7-0 win over Erskine Academy Thursday, Sept. 8.

In the win, Jillian Ross continued her strong offensive play with two goals. Kelsey Jackson (1 goal, 1 assist), Brittani Cummings (1 goal, 1 assist), Jamie Flagg (1 goal, 1 assist), Kallie Aldus (2 assists), Brooke Reed (1 goal), Briana Curry (1 goal), and Claire Banks (1 assist) all contributed to the Lions offense.

Belfast outshot Erskine 12-0. With the stellar defensive effort, the Lions held their opponents to a mere 2 shots over the first three games of the season.

The win improved the Lions' record to 3-0.
