Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke portray Maud and Everett Lewis is a new biopic about the Nova Scotian artist.

Belfast — The Belfast Senior College Special Events Committee will host the Belfast premiere of the 2017 movie “Maudie” Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.

“Maudie,” starring Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins, depicts the unlikely alliance between two lost souls. This is the true story of a disabled artist overcoming early abusive relationships with those close to her and finally finding joy and love with her curmudgeonly fisherman husband in bleak, coastal Nova Scotia. Note that some scenes in the film graphically display the abuse leveled at Maud, which some may find disturbing.

Popcorn, and other refreshments will be available. Attendees are invited to plan on joining a discussion of the movie following the screening. In addition, the committee will award a 2018 Maud Lewis calendar as a door prize.
