A time to remember and honor

Saturday, May 26

9 a.m. Flag placement, Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Volunteers are needed to join the Belfast Veterans of Foreign Wars post to place American flags on all veteran graves. Volunteers will gather at the cemetery garage.

11 a.m. Boots on the Ground event at Knox Museum, Thomaston, featuring a special talk by author, entrepreneur and decorated Vietnam veteran Charles W. Newhall III from his book “Fearful Odds, A Memoir of Vietnam and its Aftermath." Free admission, lunch, music and tours. Seating will be outside under a tent at Montpellier, 30 High St., Thomaston. Sunday, May 27

10 a.m., Faith Temple Church, 193 Lincolnville Ave. (Route 52), Belfast. Please join us for a special service to remember and honor our men and women who served in the U.S. military and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The Belfast VFW Color Guard will participate in this special service. Faith Temple Church is next to Troy Howard Middle School.

Memorial Day, Monday, May 28

8 a.m. Remembrance service, Belfast American Legion Post, outside, in front of memorial.

8:30 a.m. Remembrance service, Belfast Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, outside, in front of memorial.

9 a.m. Remembrance service at Grove Cemetery.

9:40 a.m. Parade participants will gather at Renys parking lot.

10 a.m. Parade begins and will end at the waterfront with a final memorial service on the boat landing, consisting of the following:  Statement of proclamation, prayer by Pastor Michael Horton of Faith Temple Church, honoring of commanders of respective VFW and Legion posts, laying of wreath, 21-gun salute and "Taps."
