Anglers Restaurant is helping Waldo County high schools raise money during home varsity basketball games this winter.

The school or an organization affiliated with the school sells raffle tickets at the games for a chance for someone to shoot from midcourt. The school chooses the ticket prices and decides the details on how it sells them. The school or organization keeps the profits.

At halftime the school or organization draws a winner and the winner gets three chances to make the shot. If they make it, they would receive a $100 gift card to Anglers Restaurant.

Ryan Nickerson, general manager of Anglers Restuarant, contacted 30 schools in Waldo, Penobscot, Hancock, Somerset, Kennebec and Piscataquis counties and 14 schools chose to participate, including Belfast Area High School, Mount View High School in Thorndike and Searsport District High School.

The other schools are: Dexter Regional High School, Bucksport High School, Stearns High School of Millinocket, Old Town High School, Nokomis Regional High School of Newport, Penobscot Valley High School of Howland, Hermon High School, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Hampden Academy, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfied and Katahdin High School of Sherman Station.

At the midway mark of the season the winners included: At Dexter, Lindsay Burton and Paul Shaw. At Mount View, Alyss Crooker and Emmett Shell. At Searsport, Dale Hutus. At Nokomis, Scott Hartsgrove.

All six won $100 gift cards to Anglers Restaurant and helped raise money for their school.

Anglers Restaurants are located in Searsport, Newport and Hampden.
