Carver Memorial Library's annual Spring Tea will have two seatings Sunday afternoon, April 28.

Searsport — Carver Memorial Library will host its 17th annual Spring Tea fundraiser on Sunday, April 28. There will be two seatings, at 1:30 and 3 p.m. All are welcome to share tea, scones, finger sandwiches and sweets with family, friends, and community members.

The first seating will feature music by local harpist Jean Goldfine. The library brings out its collection of vintage tea cups and table cloths for the event. The cost is $15 per person, and proceeds benefit library services.

"It is a special experience to have tea in the beautiful space of the Carver Memorial Library, which was built in 1909 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places," library Director Sue McClintock said in a press release.

"The Spring Tea is a wonderful time to socialize with friends, have a grown-up outing with a grandchild, or simply have a special afternoon out," she said.

Each year the Spring Tea feature a specially chosen variety of tea. This year’s tea is Lifeboat Tea, a popular tea in the United Kingdom. Lifeboat Tea is grown on fair trade farms in Kenya by the Williamson Tea Company, a family-owned business with over 140 years of experience in the art of growing, selecting and blending fine teas.

A share of the proceeds from each package of tea goes to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution that provides lifesaving service around the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Tea will be accompanied by assorted finger sandwiches, scones, lemon curd and clotted cream, brownies, baklava, cookies, and chocolate-covered strawberries.

The tea is made possible by the dedication and generosity of library volunteers, who cook and bake, set up and take down, and provide the tea service for both seatings. Carver Library is grateful to Angler’s Restaurant for its support and donations.

Reservations are required; call or visit the library to sign up. Carver Memorial Library is located at 12 Union St. in Searsport, and can be reached by phone at 548-2303.
