Arsenault to discuss grasses of forest, farm and wetland May 17

May 07, 2018

Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition presents Matt Arsenault, co-author of "Grasses of Maine," 2018, speaking Thursday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.

Arsenault will introduce the audience to the grasses of Maine’s natural environment, the ecological benefits they provide (and problems they create), more common species, and examples of some rare and unique species of conservation concern.

Using pictures and live specimens, Arsenault will show the grasses we can expect to see as we walk around our area. He will also introduce rushes, a much smaller group of grass-like plants.
Last year Arsenault discussed his book "Sedges of Maine." The new book on grasses should be published in time for the program.
There will be a grass field trip on Saturday, June 23, 10 a.m. to noon, at 210 Oak Hill Road, Swanville.
