Rockport — Everyone is invited to come celebrate spring at April’s ArtLab for All Ages workshop Saturday, April 5, at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, 162 Russell Ave. Participants will create strange and wonderful birds with scrap wood, wire and odd bits and pieces.

The workshop will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and is free and open to everyone. All materials will be provided. After the workshop, from 4 to 5 p.m., ArtLab instructor and photographer Marcie Jan Bronstein of Belfast will sign copies of “PhotoPlay!: Doodle, Design, Draw” (Chronicle Books, 2014), a book of photos with clever text prompts that inspires children to create their own works of art. Copies will be available for sale, and there will be sample pages from the book and markers and crayons so children can try their hand at “drawing outside the lens.”

“Spirit in Wood,” CMCA’s exhibition of Bernard Langlais’ imaginative animal kingdom, will be on view during the workshop and book signing. ArtLab is made possible in part thanks to generous support from Camden National Bank, the Milton and Sally Avery Art Foundation, and individual donors. Galleries will open for the nonprofit CMCA’s 62nd season on May 25. For more information, visit
