Attn High School Juniors - It's time to start thinking about the SATs!

By The Study Hall | Dec 21, 2017

All Juniors attending public schools across the state are required to take the 3 hour and 50 minute SAT test on April 10, 2018. It is time to start thinking about how to prepare for this exam.

The Study Hall recommends that students start actively prepping for the test six weeks prior to the test date. Our prep programs start the week of February 26th.

Between now and February, students can begin to practice for the test. Here are some things to work on:

1. READ, Read, read and practice basic math facts. Read a variety of material within US and World Literature, History/Social Studies, and Science as the reading passages are produced from those topics. You will not be able to use a calculator on one of the two math sections. Study operations with fractions and your multiplication facts. Resources are readily available as apps or at online sites such as Khan Academy and Amazon.

2. Visit the College Board website or download the CollegeBoard App and try their Daily Practice.

3. Have your PSATs analyzed by an expert. The Study Hall offers a free 30 minute PSAT analysis to help you better understand your results and determine which SAT Prep option is best for you.

4. Review PSAT scores and test booklet to see what areas to focus in on. Try to correct the questions answered wrong on the PSATs. Try to pinpoint the reasons for answering a question wrong, careless mistake, not enough time, no idea how to answer it, etc.

5. Visit websites of colleges of interest to see the range of SAT scores that they require.

The SATs are not the end-all to college admittance, but they are an important piece. The test should be taken seriously, and all steps should be utilized to maximize your score! Call The Study Hall for information on the SAT Prep programs that we offer or to sign up for a free PSAT analysis at 236-3949 or email rockport@thestudyhall.com.
