Belfast — Barbara Smith (Ryan) Miller, 87, passed away peacefully with her daughter Doreen by her side on Dec. 31, 2019.

Barbara was born in Belfast in 1932, the daughter of Mary (Nan) and Tracy D. Smith and the youngest of eight children. She grew up in Belfast. In her early education, Barbara attended a one-room school house and graduated in 1949 from Crosby High School.

Barbara married Irving Ryan Jr. of Rockland in 1950 and had six children before his death in 1984. In 1992 Barbara married Norman Miller, a union in which they shared their mutual love for Jehovah God until Norman's death in 2004.

Barbara was known as an industrious and invaluable worker at Stinson's Canning for most all her life. That same devotion carried on through her faith and commitment as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Barbara zealously and joyfully shared her Bible knowledge for over 50 years with everyone she met.

Barbara was a witty wordsmith. She loved animals, nature, gardening, baking, and was an artist in her own right.

She is survived by daughter Bonami Von Rumpf of Belfast, son Ervin Ryan of Dexter, daughter Doreen and Robert Snow of Belfast, daughter Cindy and Patrick Crowley of Bangor, son Daniel Ryan of Belfast, and son Kevin Ryan and his partner Patrick of Prescott, Ariz. She had six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 353 Belmont Ave., Belfast, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. (weather permitting) with an alternative date of Jan. 18.
