Bebb, Hurley honored with Chamber's top awards

Northport — Breanna Pinkham Bebb received the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce's Appreciation Award and Mike Hurley its Citizen of the Year Award at the chamber's annual dinner Nov. 10 at Point Lookout.

Bebb, outgoing executive director of Our Town Belfast, was recognized as "someone who works behind the scenes, capturing so much of what makes Belfast special and unique." The award is sponsored by Dutch Chevrolet Buick.

Former Mayor Hurley, beginning a fifth term as a city councilor, and owner of Colonial Theatre, was recognized for having made "an outstanding positive impact in Waldo County during (his) lifetime, either by a single event or on a continuous basis." The award is sponsored by Mathews Brothers.

Awards previously announced were presented to:

Private Home Care Inc., Growth Award, sponsored by Smart DataMap Services and Robin’s Nest Consignment, given to a business that has successfully expanded, renovated, created an innovative new line, or increased employees in the past year.

Belfast Free Library, Building Community Award, sponsored by Down East Credit Union, given to a nonprofit or educational institution which works to make Waldo County a better community for everyone.

Waldo County General Hospital, Healthy Waldo County Award, sponsored by Damariscotta Bank & Trust, which recognizes a group, business or organization that promotes healthy living, provides activities or encourages a healthy lifestyle.

Fiber College of Maine, Community Event Award, sponsored by Courier Publications, awarded for an event that brings much to our community, whether by attracting people or attention to Belfast and Waldo County.

United Farmer's Market of Maine, New Business Award, sponsored by Elm Street Marketing Essentials powered by Proforma, given to a new business that has been around for three years or less and holds the promise of being here for many years to come.

Perry's Home Furnishings & Design, Hometown Heritage Award, sponsored by Consumers Fuel Company, given to a business that has been around for more years than we can remember and is a bedrock in the community.

Mary Mortier, Community Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by Atlantic Insurance & Benefits, recognizing her for showing outstanding service as an unpaid volunteer for an organization or activity in Waldo County.
