Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce names new Executive Director

The Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that they have selected Steve Ryan of Belfast as their next executive director.

Steve has been active in the midcoast region of Maine in a variety of roles.  He is currently chair of the Belfast Planning Board and sits on the board of the Maine Celtic Celebration, the award winning cultural festival held annually in Belfast.  He served as the city’s representative on the Gateway 1 transportation planning project which garnered national recognition, and was the chair of the board for Friends of Midcoast Maine for several years.  He leaves a director position in the healthcare field with Beacon Health, the population health division of Eastern Maine Health Systems in Brewer, Maine.

Steve is replacing the outgoing executive director Michaelene Achorn who has served for a year and a half, as she is pursuing other ambitions with her husband in Florida.  Michaelene leaves the Chamber in a strong position, with both publications and events increasingly popular with local businesses, and tourists from around Maine and across the country.

With a busy fall and holiday season fast approaching, Board President Drew Strout is relieved to bring on board the new leadership.  “The Chamber’s golf tournament on September 22nd, the annual awards gala on November 10th and our award winning annual publication ‘Belfast: the Bay and Beyond’ are all going to benefit from the time Steve and Michaelene will have together, resulting in a smooth transition for our Chamber.”

The Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce is a partnership of over 380 business owners and professionals working together to build a better community through affiliation, collaboration and long-lasting relationships.  The mission of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce is to promote business and economic growth in the Belfast area.
