Lancaster, Pa. — A handful of Waldo County field hockey players will take their games to the next level, after having been selected for the 2017 National Futures Tournament under the auspices of USA Field Hockey.

Sarah Woods and Madison Shorey,  eighth- and seventh-graders at Troy Howard Middle School, were selected for the U14 team, while Brooke Richards and Lindsay Bruns, in ninth and 11th grade at Belfast Area High School, were tabbed to the U16 squad.

The event will be Tuesday through Thursday, June 20-29 at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.

The Citi National Futures Championship, presented by Harrow Sports, is the premier championship event for USA Field Hockey's Futures Program, the sport's Olympic Development Pipeline.

Held annually in late June since 1990, NFC brings together the top female field hockey players selected from more than 5,000 athletes across nine regions. These athletes were selected based on their performance at their respective region’s Regional Futures Tournament May 6-7.

All four youngsters play club field hockey as well, as Woods and Richards play for Maine Majestix and Bruns and Shorey for Black Bear Elite.
